The City
Manchester is an exciting and diverse city with countless historical, cultural and sporting sights to capture everyone's interest. Combining the sophistication and energy of a thriving metropolis with easy access to the stunning scenery of the Lake District and Wales, Manchester has something to offer for everybody..

Manchester has one of the largest student populations in Europe with a over 90,000 students across 4 major universities. This is reflected in the cultural diversity of the bars and restaurants; whether you are looking to sample the delicacies of China Town or try a spot of salsa-dancing in a Latin-style cafe, there is something to suit your taste.

At the same time, there is a wide range of galleries and museums in Manchester; many of these are free to visit and are fascinating. The Urbis in the city centre is one of Manchester's most iconic buildings; It displays fascinating exhibitions which vary throughout the year. The Imperial War Museum is another interesting building to visit and is situated in the Salford Quays - a modern and picturesque area of Manchester.

The city is home to some of the most famous sporting venues in the world. Prominent amongst these is Old Trafford; the home of Manchester United. We regularly organise tours around Manchester United's football ground, Old Trafford. The tour offers football fans (and everyone else) a peek where the players train and cool down.

Music venues are in abundance in Manchester and the city plays host to some of the biggest names in the music industry. The biggest venue in Manchester is the Manchester Evening News Arena, but smaller venues such as the Manchester Academies host exciting new bands.

The Region
Manchester is bordered by the extremely beautiful Lake District. We offer frequent trips to this stunning area and because there is so much to see, this trip usually includes an overnight stop.

Similarly, just outside of the city there are beautiful stately homes such as Tatton Park, Dunham Massey and Lyme Park. These offer a glimpse into Manchester's aristocratic history and have beautiful gardens to walk around.

Further afield within the North West is Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the thrill seekers among us. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the most popular amusement parks in the country and is just a short train journey from Manchester.

A popular excursion is to Chester where students can see the remains of what was once a great Roman city and learn the history of the fallen Roman Empire. A visit to Chester Zoo is also a favourite amongst students. Chester Zoo is one of the biggest Zoos in the country and houses over 7000 animals!

Another great social activity we offer for the animal lovers is a visit to Knowsley Safari Park. This visit offers student the chance to experience East Africa..in the Northwest! This is a unique experience for students as they have the opportunity to experience wild animals such as lions, right up close!

With so many exciting and interesting venues to choose from, there is a wealth of opportunities to explore and enjoy the region during your stay at Berlitz Manchester. For more information or assistance, speak with our Social Activities Co-Ordinator who will be happy to help.
